A spending plan that would end the record-setting government shutdown in the nation's history is advancing toward the House of Representatives for a decisive ballot on Wednesday.

On the sixth week of the budget deadlock, lawmakers are returning to Washington to determine if they will approve a upper chamber proposal that would finance government departments for the next eight weeks.

Majority party officials expressed confidence the budget proposal would pass through the House of Representatives, despite their tight margin. But leading opposition members vowed to oppose it.

"We're restoring our nation," he declared on the previous day at a patriotic gathering in the DC area. "Never should have been halted."

The chamber is scheduled to reassemble at 16:00 EST (21:00 GMT) to conduct sixty minutes of discussion on the bill before a ballot.

Opposing View

Opposition chief the New York representative of his constituency promised to challenge the legislation.

"We firmly object as the minority party to this reckless Republican effort to persist in increasing the rising expenses on working families," he told the news network.

Jeffries has voiced disappointment with the upper chamber minority who supported Republicans on the previous evening to endorse the budget proposal.

Key Issues

A key condition of the opposition during the closure has been that Republicans include in the funding package a provision to prolong fiscal incentives that make healthcare cheaper for a significant population.

But the majority party maintained solidarity and would not move, consenting merely to allow a ballot next month on the medical assistance, something they had offered earlier.

And there is no guarantee that measure will even pass the Senate, while the Speaker has still not guaranteed a vote on the fiscal incentives in the House.

Political Dynamics

The Speaker has kept the House out of session for 53 days to increase leverage against Senate Democrats to reach a funding agreement.
