Following Trump's comments on that day, Democratic leadership issued a unified statement censuring the remarks.
"Political violence has no place in America," they stated. "Representatives who were featured in the video all served our nation with tremendous national pride and distinction. We clearly condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and risky death threats against elected officials, and urge House Republicans to forcefully do the same."
The party representatives also stated that they had been in communication with security officials "to ensure the security of these representatives and their families."
"Donald Trump must without delay take down these unhinged digital publications and recant his dangerous discourse before he gets someone killed," the statement stated.
Representatives' Strong Response
The representatives who were featured in the video also published a declaration.
"We serve as former service members and defense specialists who love this country and made an vow to protect and uphold the constitution of the United States," they said. "This commitment continues forever, and we aim to honor it. No intimidation, pressure, or incitement will deter us from that fundamental obligation."
"What's most telling is that the former president considers it liable to punishment by execution for us to reiterate the legal requirements," they added. "Our service members should understand that we have their backs as they execute their pledge to the founding principles and responsibility to obey only proper directives. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our responsibility."
They added: "All citizens must join forces and denounce the ex-president's calls for our execution and ideological conflict. This is a time for ethical certainty."
Further Political Responses
The Democratic Senate minority leader also denounced Trump's remarks and published on digital platforms: "We must be absolutely clear: the former president is requesting the death of public representatives."
He continued: "This represents an clear THREAT. All senators, each house member, the entire nation – without partisan consideration – should condemn this right away and absolutely."
The Conservative official defended Trump's allegation that the Democrats had engaged in "treason", characterizing the video as "highly unsuitable", adding: "This represents very harmful, you have prominent officials of Congress advising soldiers to ignore directives, I think that represents unprecedented in US history."
The Conservative representative also allegedly informed the press that in what he examined of Trump's posts, Trump was "defining the crime of sedition" but that "lawyers have to examine the language and decide all that."
Administration Response
During a executive branch meeting on Thursday afternoon, when questioned by a reporter, "Would the president want to execute congressional representatives?", the White House press secretary responded: "Absolutely not."
"We should understand about what the former president is responding to," the spokesperson stated. "We see active officials of the federal government who worked together to arrange a video message to members of the American armed forces, to active duty service members advising them to disobey the commander in chief's legal commands."
She stated: "The integrity of our defense system rests on the chain of command, and if that chain of command is broken, it can lead to fatalities, it can lead to confusion, and that is exactly what these members of Congress ... are fundamentally supporting."
